Sri Lanka’s Colombo Lotus Tower, which already hosts shops, a museum, hotel space, and an observation deck, is now making room for a casino. More importantly, the structure also supports broadcast antenna equipment for over 100 telecommunications ventures. As Inside Asia Gaming reports, the inclusion of a casino to the tower amenities is projected to earn Lotus Tower Management Company (LTMC) $1.4 million per year. Colombo Lotus Tower bills itself as the 11th largest tower in Asia, and the 19th tallest tower in the world. The casino will become the sixth legal casino in operation in Sri Lanka.

Singapore’s Kreate Design Pte Limited made the deal with LTMC to lease out one floor of the Colombo Lotus Tower to create the attraction. With 44,000 square feet available, Kreate Design has said it will construct the casino, then move on to adding a water park. Whether the company will operate the casino itself or bring in outside resources is unknown at this time.

During a press conference announcing the plan, Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Tourism, Diana Gamage, stated, “This will enable Colombo Lotus Tower as a hub to develop trade, investment and tourism activities between Singapore and Sri Lanka.”

Cyntia Chan, Kreate Design’s Business Development Director, added, “This investment agreement includes development of water sports and an entertainment zone, one of the best to be developed at world class standard at the Lotus Tower in Colombo.”
