Broadband Technical Assistance Program (BTAP) grants have been awarded in increments of $150,000 per county to the fortunate recipients, the state announced last week. The funding was made available through the Oregon Universal Service Fund, reports KPTV-KPDX-TV. Eleven different projects will benefit from the grants.

“For this $1.5 million program, we received 27 applications with a request of more than $4.47 million,” noted Nick Batz, Director of the Oregon Broadband Office. “Our goal for Oregon is for all Oregonians to have access to broadband by the end of this decade and this funding is a great start.”

BTAP has worked to develop broadband financing and deployment strategies for unserved and underserved communities in Oregon. Award winners of the grants include Polk County, the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company, the Clatskanie People’s Utility District, Tillamook Lightwave IGA, Greater Eastern Oregon Development Corporation, Gilliam County, Josephine County, Wheeler County, The Inland Development Corporation, the City of John Day, and the Morrow County Broadband Network Consortium.
