EchoStar Enlisted by the Navy

The U.S. Naval Supply Systems Command Spiral 4 wireless products and services purchasing program will soon have 5G services provided by EchoStar (NASDAQ: SATS), reports Benzinga. The 10-year indefinite quantity contract is part of an agreement between the satellite vendor and the Department of Defense that could be worth up to $2.7 billion. EchoStar’s Spiral 4 program, focuses on smartphone devices but also works with tablets, IoT equipment, and other 5G-enabled devices affording them secure digital connections. 

“EchoStar Corporation is proud to provide the DoD and other federal agencies with significant technological advancement using our innovative, Open-RAN based wireless connectivity capabilities,” stated John Swieringa, president technology and COO of EchoStar.  

Subsidiaries Hughes Network Systems and Boost Mobile will help empower EchoStar to supply 5G wireless services and devices to military personnel in all 50 U.S. states, according to reports Benzinga. The service will extend to U.S. territories and can also keep international travels on temporary duty connected. The company added that the program is available to buyers in the DoD and other government agencies and includes mobile device delivery, task orders for service plans, device hardware, customer service, and reporting capabilities processed through an online portal. 

The agreement between the U.S. Naval Supply Systems command and EchoStar initiates with an annual contract beginning this month, with nine one-year options available until 2034.
