Common Ground Fair Uses Temporary Cell Tower To Meet DemandComments Off on Common Ground Fair Uses Temporary Cell Tower To Meet Demand
Each year about 60,000 people flock to Main for the Common Ground Fair and last year the cellular networks had a difficult time handling the demand for cell phone service. This year, the organizers of the Common Ground Fair are setting up a temporary cell phone tower so fair goers will have better reception.
The Common Group Country Fair is held in Unity, Maine and will run from September 20-22. This fair celebrates farm practices, folk traditions and artisan crafts so it felt right that there wasn’t cell phone reception during the fair. However safety is always a concern, which is why the fair organizers decided to install a temporary tower.
The fair is put on by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, an organization designed to promote the growth of organic food and environmentally sound farming practices and provide support for farmers and gardeners. Many of the regular fair goers aren’t upset about this implementation of the tower. A lot of the vendors use mobile payment systems and there is a mobile map that can be downloaded for patrons to use.
